It has been reported that German health officials have begun to ban the sale of ‘Red Bull Cola’ because they found traces of Cocaine. Now, you may have heard that back in the 19th century, Coca Cola contained cocaine. For obvious reasons, they removed it and replaced it with caffeine. Red Bull Cola, however, contains only a trace amount of a Cocaine extract and does not pose a serious health risk.
Here are some highlights:
- ‘Red Bull Cola’ contains 0.13 micrograms of cocaine per can and does not pose a serious health risk.
- A person would have to drink 12,000 liters to feel the negative effects.
- De-Cocainized extract of coca leaf is used worldwide as a natural flavoring.
- Coca Cola refuses to confirm if they still use any derivative of Coca leaf in their modern formula.
- The head of the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research in the city of Nuremberg said, "And it’s not even cocaine itself. According to the tests we carried out, it’s a non-active degradation product with no effect on the body."*
